RiversEdge expanding East Coast facility
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, June 12, 2006
Lynchburg, Va. — Case goods importer RiversEdge Furniture is doubling the size of its East Coast service center here to 250,000 square feet.
The facility, which also houses corporate headquarters, now has 19 loading docks that handle the shipping of replacement parts and finished goods. The $3.5 million expansion will add 18 loading docks, and more space for chair and occasional table assembly.
Construction started in February and is expected to be completed in June. About half the enlarged facility will be used for parts storage, said Managing Director Mark Stubstad.
He added the facility would mainly serve dealers east of Mississippi.
"It's geared for major retailers," Stubstad said. "We have to be able to accommodate their particular needs."
Eventually, he said, the facility may carry as much as 80% of the company's replacement parts and be able to ship most within 48 hours. The Lynchburg expansion won't add many employees beyond the 38 that now work there, Stubstad said.
In January, RiversEdge added 21 employees in Vietnam with the opening of a new office in Ho Chi Minh City. That 3,000-square-foot facility is about 20 minutes from its source factory and employs quality control and engineering staff. It also has a small showroom.
Other company offices are in Dongguan City, China, and Hong Kong.
RiversEdge markets adult and youth bedroom, dining room, occasional, home office and home entertainment furniture.
