By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 22, 2005

Ashley Furniture HomeStores have opened in California and Illinois.

Ashley's first metro Chicago store is on North Milwaukee Avenue in the suburb of Vernon Hills, Ill. The 60,000-square-foot unit is owned by Barry, Rick and Larry Slovy. They plan to open three more Ashley stores this year, and up to 12 in the Chicago market.

The 50,000-square-foot Ashley store on Madison Avenue in Murrieta, Calif., features over 3,000 items in all categories. The store includes a coffee and snack area called The Daily Grind and a Fun Zone for kids to try out desks, bunk beds and dressers.

The store is owned by Edward Corn Sr., Christine Corn, Edward Corn Jr. and Darrin Marthens.

Wisconsin-based Ashley Furniture Inds., founded in 1945, is a full-line furniture manufacturer and importer. The first HomeStore opened in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1997. There currently are over 180 Ashley stores in North America.
