City of Hope to honor the late Don Marks during High Point Market

Tribute event takes place Oct. 16 in lobby of Center Point

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 9, 2009

HIGH POINT — City of Hope and friends of the late Don Marks, the former Badcock Home Furniture & more CEO who died of cancer Oct. 3, plan a tribute to him on Friday, Oct. 16, during the High Point Market.

The gathering will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby of Center Point, 401 S. Hamilton St.

Marks, who was 62, joined Mulberry, Fla.-based Badcock in 1998 and retired as president and CEO in 2008. Under his leadership, the chain increased profits and adopted new marketing and supply chain management practices, as well as a new store concept.

He was active in charities and his community, and in 2005 won the Spirit of Life Award from City of Hope, a nonprofit medical research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Living Gift forms will be available at the High Point event for anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to City of Hope.
