HIGH POINT — Sofitalia, the new leather upholstery division of Lacquercraft, has hired Peter Halunen as vice president of sales and operations for the United States and Canada.
Halunen, who most recently was vice president of sales and marketing for the eastern U.S. at Natuzzi, will oversee sales and marketing for Sofitalia.
The new venture, an alliance between China-based Lacquercraft and Italian leather producer Incanto, is targeting sofa price points of $899 to $1,499 at retail.
“We are very fortunate to have someone of Peter's background join our company and head up the new U.S. operations,” said Lacquercraft President Mohammad Amini.
Besides leather upholstery producer Natuzzi, Halunen has worked for Top 100 retailers Jordan's, Baer's and Robb & Stucky. He also was vice president of merchandising for Internet retailer Furniture.com.
“Sofitalia will offer retailers a range of styles with exceptional comfort and tailoring, and be focused on providing shortened lead times,” Halunen said. “Having the power of Lacquercraft behind us, and by keeping our assortment focused, we will develop a core product collection that we will be able to produce quickly in China.”
The line is produced at Lacquercraft's factory in Jiaxing, China, and initially will be sold on a container-direct basis, he said.
