Ikea's Texas store ahead of schedule

Round Rock, Texas — With construction ahead of schedule, Ikea has shifted the opening of its store in this central Texas city from next spring to this fall.
The Sweden-based retailer, which also has Texas stores in Frisco and Houston, is building a 252,000-square-foot store here at IH-35 and University Boulevard.
"Due to the significant progress made since breaking ground in March, we are confident remaining construction milestones and the interior build-up process will be completed months ahead of schedule," said Doug Greenholz, Ikea real estate manager.
The store will have Ikea's typical lineup of 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 room settings, three in-store model homes, a supervised children's play area, and a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties and American dishes.
Other family-friendly features will include a Children's Ikea area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking, and play areas throughout the store.
Ikea has about 235 stores in 34 countries, including 28 in the United States, where it plans to open three to five stores a year.
New stores are planned in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Draper, Utah; Dublin, Calif.; Orlando and Sunrise, Fla.; Portland, Ore.; and Somerville, Mass.
