University honors Audis

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 2, 2006

Colgate University has awarded honorary doctor of humane letters degrees to Alfred and Aminy Audi, owners of high-end furniture manufacturer L.&J.G. Stickley of Manlius, N.Y. and Stickley, Audi & Co. retail showrooms.

Alfred Audi, a 1960 graduate of Colgate, is president of Stickley. Since the Audis acquired the 106-year-old company in 1974, they have transformed an ailing producer with 22 employees into a thriving business with three factories, 14 showrooms and 1,600 employees worldwide.

Aminy Audi is a partner in Stickley and president of Stickley, Audi & Co., the retail division of L.&J.G. Stickley, overseeing marketing, public relations and showroom development.

She is a recipient of the Woman of the Year in Manufacturing Award from WithIt, or Women in the Home Industries Today.

On behalf of his family, Alfred Audi established the E.J Audi scholarship at Colgate in honor of his father.
