HINSDALE, Ill. -- Top 10 bedding producer Comfort Solutions by King Koil will continue to support breast cancer research this year, marking another social marketing initiative in the bedding industry.
Bedding producers have been leaders in coordinating marketing programs with various charitable and educational causes, believing they are giving their dealers a chance to help make a difference and to stand apart from those using more traditional promotional strategies.Comfort Solutions will support Finding the Cure, beginning this August. Designer/actress Jaclyn Smith, Comfort Solutions’ branding partner, again will be the national spokeswoman for Finding the Cure, working to support national and local fundraising efforts. The bedding producer will kick off its support for Finding the Cure with advertising in Good Housekeeping magazine, which reaches a national audience of 25 million readers. This year, Comfort Solutions is partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit charitable foundation dedicated to research, education and saving lives through early detection programs.Last year, Comfort Solutions used Smith in a number of marketing materials, promotions and events to create awareness for breast cancer research. The producer raised more than $174,000 in donations from its plants and corporate office, and boosted its giving through tie-ins with its dealers.A number of Comfort Solutions dealers participated in the event and added substantial dollars to the cause, said Larry McKay, president of Comfort Solutions. “The donations documented from just three of our major retailers brought last year’s total to more than $250,000,” he said. “We expect to generate even bigger dollars for breast cancer research with the 2006 event.”McKay said Comfort Solutions’ goal this year is to generate $350,000 in donations, a 40% increase over last year. The National Breast Cancer Foundation says that over 211,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and that 43,300 will die from the disease.
