WHFA's Bradley joins furniture banks board

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 31, 2006

Sharron Bradley, executive director of the Western Home Furnishings Assn., has joined the board of directors of the National Furniture Banks Assn.

She joins other home furnishings industry leaders on the board, including Home Furnishings International Assn. President Mary Frye, National Home Furnishings Assn. Executive Vice President Steve DeHaan and Furniture/Today Editor-in-Chief Ray Allegrezza,

Frye said she and other directors were unanimous in inviting Bradley to join the board.

"Sharron has a track record of being someone who gets things done," said Frye. "Once she's locked onto a goal, she puts forth her trademark grit and determination to succeed."

"I can't wait to get started," said Bradley. "This is a fantastic organization that helps hundreds of thousands of people in our country every year." She added that her goal is to "do whatever I can to engage this industry, and see the number of furniture banks in America double within 18 months."

At a board meeting this month, the NFBA board's primary agenda item will be to discuss the status of the organization's 600 in '06 drive, which is aimed at attaining 600 sponsors from the home furnishings industry this year.

Representing 70 furniture banks across the country, the NFBA's mission is to increase the capacity of existing furniture banks and launch new ones. Furniture banks collect used home furnishings from the public, then donate goods to needy families such as survivors of natural disasters, women and children escaping domestic violence, and working families living below the poverty line.

Furniture banks keep used furniture off the secondary sale market and also prevent usable furniture from ending up in incinerators and landfills.

Help1Up is the NFBA's national public awareness campaign.
