Rent-Way: No comment on sale rumor

Erie, Pa. — Rent-Way issued an official "no comment" late last week in response to what it said was a rumor regarding a sale of the rent-to-own company.
The company noted that it had hired Citigroup Global Markets in fall 2004 to assist it in evaluating refinancing and strategic alternatives, but said that work was still ongoing.
Rent-Way rents furniture, appliances, electronics and other home products in 784 stores in 34 states.
