AT THE MARKET -- A new breeze will soon be blowing through the airbed category, as industry sales leader Sealy confirmed here that it will introduce Posturepedic airbeds in select test markets this month.
Two test models are a tighttop version retailing at $1,799 and a pillowtop at $1,999. The adjustable airbeds are marketed under the banner of RightTouch by Sealy Posturepedic.
The beds, which the company isn’t showing at market, feature two independent air chambers that allow consumers to adjust the firmness of each side of the mattress to meet individual comfort needs and preferences.
“Specialty bedding products are the industry’s fastest-growing market segment,” said Philip Dobbs, Sealy’s senior vice president of marketing. “RightTouch builds on Sealy Posturepedic’s trusted heritage of orthopedically correct support and long-lasting comfort, and delivers another innovative option for consumers looking for non-traditional sleep solutions.”
Sealy said the RightTouch beds feature air chambers that offer precise comfort adjustments “at the touch of a button.” The producer said the models have many traditional luxury bedding features, including a soft knit fabric, a premium profile and Sealy’s patented Shock Abzzorber Plus box spring.
Tests of the new RightTouch beds will continue for several months, Sealy officials said.
The airbeds expand Sealy’s growing lineup of specialty bedding products.
At this market, Sealy is showing new latex Posturepedic beds under the SpringFree II banner. Those models are made with more comfort materials and enhanced aesthetics.
Sealy also is expanding its Posturepedic visco line, TrueForm, with a new pillowtop model, retailing at $2,999. That model is made of multilayered memory foam with a cashmere blend cover.
And Sealy’s Stearns & Foster luxury line is expanding with the Tropical Oasis latex line.
“We’re serious about specialty bedding,” said David McIlquham, Sealy’s CEO. “The specialty bedding segment represents an enormous opportunity to expand our business while offering consumers a variety of sleep solutions that will help them get a great night’s sleep.”
