Dan River to sell apparel fabric operation
Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, August 14, 2005
Danville, Va. — Dan River Inc. is planning to sell its apparel fabric operation and focus on its home fashions business, which includes top-of-bed and upholstery fabrics.
The apparel fabric operation provides fabric prep services for converters as well as supplies home furnishings companies with yarn-dyed wovens, such as plaids, checks and stripes and seersucker constructions.
"Dan River has a strong heritage in apparel fabrics but our future is in the home fashions arena...in which we see better growth opportunities," said Barry Shea, CEO and president.
In a letter sent to customers, Jim Martin, president of the apparel fabrics division, said that Dan River will accept orders up to Dec. 2. Shipments will end at that point.
The company "is working with customers to anticipate their needs" during the transition between the end of Dan River shipments and a new owner, Martin said.
Dan River has several potential buyers that are currently "in due diligence," Martin added.
In February, the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which it filed for in March of 2004.
The company will retain its No Trace hunting apparel business.
