Sherman, 55, was riding on Church Street north of North Carolina 150 in Guilford County when a silver Dodge Durango struck him from the rear, witnesses said.
Sherman, who worked at Sealy for more than 11 years, was vice president of tax and internal audit for the bedding maker. "He played a significant role in Sealy's mergers and acquisitions, and financial transactions, including Sealy's IPO and recent refinancing," the company said. Sherman "contributed greatly" to Sealy's financial improvements, Sealy said.
He is remembered by his Sealy colleagues as someone who embraced life and pursued his passions with joy. He competed in marathons and cycling events, loved music, and had learned to play the violin in recent years. Earlier in his life he lived in Africa and Europe, and he spent summers working in U.S. national parks.
Survivors include his wife and two daughters.
A funeral is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at New Garden Friends Meeting, 801 New Garden Rd., Greensboro, N.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greensboro Symphony or New Garden Friends Meeting.
