Berkline offers power

HIGH POINT — Motion upholstery major Berkline introduced a collection of mid-priced sofas at market that feature power reclining mechanisms, an encased coil seating system and a steel-enhanced frame.
Called the Modern Comforts collection, the line has starting retail price points of $799 for fabric covers and $999 for leather/vinyl covers.
“The new line has a more modern and contemporary design that we believe will be attractive to some of our younger consumer segments,” said Bruce Sinning, vice president of merchandising. “It combines unique features and construction that has resulted in enhanced comfort and appearance, but at a very attractive price point.”
He said the sofas, which are produced in China, have a slightly smaller scale, which makes them suitable for apartments, condominiums and smaller homes.
The size also makes the sofas more container-friendly, Sinning said, which should reduce shipping costs for dealers.
