Sealy VP dies in bicycle hit-and-run

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 2, 2009

Sealy executive David Sherman was killed Oct. 24 when an SUV struck his bicycle and left the scene of the accident.

Sherman, 55, was riding on Church Street north of North Carolina 150 in Guilford County when a silver Dodge Durango struck him from the rear, witnesses said.

Sherman, who worked at Sealy for more than 11 years, was vice president of tax and internal audit for the bedding maker.

“He played a significant role in Sealy's mergers and acquisitions, and financial transactions, including Sealy's IPO and recent refinancing,” the company said, adding that Sherman “contributed greatly” to Sealy's financial improvements.

Survivors include his wife and two daughters.

Donations in Sherman's memory may be made to the Greensboro Symphony or New Garden Friends Meeting.

As of late last week, police were investigating a vehicle that may have been involved in the incident but had filed no charges.
