Wesley Allen supports pancreatic cancer research

Metal beds maker helps raise awareness

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, November 4, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Metal beds manufacturer Wesley Allen is helping raise awareness of pancreatic cancer during November.

The company has placed the logo of the El Segundo, Calif.-based Pancreatic Cancer Action Network on its Web site. The logo links to the center's Web site, www.pancan.org.

The center raises funds and otherwise supports pancreatic cancer research. According to its Web site, the disease is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. It said that this year, 42,470 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 35,240 will die from the disease. By 2030, it estimates that the number of cases will rise by 55%.

Wesley Allen decided to get involved because a friend and customer in the industry had a family member who died from the disease. Wesley Allen executives Victor Sawan and Wesley Sawan have been to pancreatic cancer fund raising events and have made regular contributions to research initiatives.

"Even though we haven't been affected (personally), when you see it, you realize how it is ignored compared to other cancers," said Wesley Sawan, director of operations.
