Concept Marketing president brings Jessica Simpson to High Point Market

HIGH POINT - Kerry Glasser is bringing Jessica Simpson to High Point Market this week. Along with Betsey Johnson, Vince Camuto and a Brides magazine.
So to speak. As he has been doing for more than two decades, Glasser, founder and president of New York-based Concept Marketing Group, is here looking for home furnishings licensing partners for some brands that have made their names in other arenas.
Glasser said he first came to market 25 years ago armed with a portfolio of designs and no real knowledge of how to navigate from the airport to downtown High Point, not to mention trying to find showrooms to get to appointments on time.
"Twenty-five years later I have to admit that even with better signage, I am still challenged," he says. "One thing I have learned is to have a sense of humor and leave more time between appointments."
Over the years he has brokered a diverse array of home furnishings licenses. His first comprehensive collection was Made with CARE at Masco, which led to others such as Jessica McClintock, Nautica, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass and Althorp Living History.
Glasser said the recession took a toll on licensing. While brand owners were looking for additional revenue streams with brand extensions, the timing was miserable for establishing home furnishings-related initiatives. But he said the appetite has improved, and he thinks his roster this market will offer viable design and branding options.
Jessica Simpson is not only a singer and actress, but also a $1 billion brand for which Glasser said he has just brokered a comprehensive fashion bed license.
"We are now looking to extend this strong franchise with a range of furniture, rugs, lighting and accessories," he said. "The design aesthetic can be best described as American and feminine, forward yet classically familiar, iconic, approachable, and vintage at times but always of the moment. Jessica's merchandise philosophy across all her product classifications is a great product at a surprising value."
Vince Camuto is known for establishing Nine West and is a women's fashion designer and brand with high awareness domestically and internationally, Glasser said. He said the brand is a natural for home fashions because of its modern design aesthetic and its success in 31 women's product classifications. Its first foray into home is a just-launched fashion bedding line targeting department and specialty stores.
Brides magazine circulates to 13 million brides-to-be with $194 billion in spending power, Glasser said. Brides offers "engaging content and marketing support," which provides licensing partners with value while "presenting consumers with the distinctive products and experiences they expect from Brides," he said.
Betsey Johnson is a brand that Glasser says "conquers a dualism between rock and roll and ‘girly girl.'" He said Johnson's apparel collection and soon-to-be-launched fashion bedding program "emphasizes personality, fun, free spirit, celebration, happiness, bright color, movement and modernity."
Glasser will be at market through Tuesday and can be reached on his cell phone at (917) 842-3046 or by email at email@example.com.
