Former bedding executive Eugene Detmer dies at 90

ARCADIA, Calif. — Former bedding executive Eugene T. Detmer, 90, died at his home here recently.
Detmer worked for the Columbia Mattress Co. in Chicago and in 1973, he became president of Aireloom Bedding, moving his family to San Marino, Calif. He worked for Aireloom for several years.
"Gene was a steward of premium bedding," said veteran bedding executive Bob Hellyer, Detmer's cousin. "He was always focused on quality and craftsmanship. He was a valued contributor to the National Assn. of Bedding Manufacturers (the predecessor organization to the International Sleep Products Assn.) and the bedding community."
Survivors include a brother, a daughter, two sons, five stepchildren, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Holy Family Church of South Pasadena, Calif., or the Vincentians of Los Angeles.
