Askona making gains with King Koil in Russia

Moscow show demonstrates mattress opportunities

David Perry -- Furniture Today, September 21, 2006

MOSCOW — From Russia, with mattresses.

Larry McKay, president of Comfort Solutions, was impressed with bedding maker Askona Inds. when he visited that company at a trade show here a few months ago. That fast-growing company, doing business as King Koil Russia, was one of the star exhibitors at the Moscow show. McKay, who has visited bedding producers around the globe, liked what he saw. “The products, marketing and displays were outstanding,” he recalled of that trip to Moscow. “King Koil Russia was clearly the leader in luxury bedding and quality at this show.” King Koil Russia was recently signed as the licensee for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, McKay announced. The trip to Moscow was the culmination of a process that began back in the United States, when Askona officials visited the Comfort Solutions showroom at the Las Vegas Market. That gave Askona officials an idea of the breadth and marketing capabilities of the Comfort Solutions brand. Askona is a privately held company that started in the bedding business 15 years ago. The company has factories in Kirov and Novosibirsk. Vladimir Sedov is the general manager of the company. Roman Ershov is the executive director, reporting to Sedov. Askona has joined Comfort Solutions’ International Licensing Group and will be using its King Koil brand. Comfort Solutions has 24 international licensees.
