GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Park Place, a family-owned company that built its reputation as a traditional bedding producer, continues to push the wellness envelope with its Sleep Therapy line.
That line, which company officials tout as offering “the original no-turn mattress,” has given consumers beds incorporating magnets and high-tech, temperature-regulating fibers. Now the producer is adding Aroma Therapy, Heat Therapy, Oxygen Therapy and Eco Therapy models to its line.“We continue to lead with bedding that offers stories,” said Edwin Shoffner, vice president of sales. “Wellness stories are not common throughout the market.”Each of the new beds offers important wellness benefits, he said. The Aroma Therapy models feature ticking that emits a lavender scent, an aroma popular with women, the primary bedding purchasers. New models will feature vanilla and country linen aromas, Shoffner said, noting that research has found that those scents, along with lavender, are the top three aromas favored by women.
He said the aromas will last three to five years. The Heat Therapy mattress uses Outlast, a temperature-regulating technology that continuously balances a sleeper’s temperature to keep her comfortable all night. Developed by NASA for use in astronauts’ gloves, Outlast reduces overheating, perspiration and chill, and adapts to the body’s thermal needs, the company says. The Oxygen Therapy mattress utilizes Holofiber, which according to Park Place has been proven to measurably increase blood oxygen levels in the body, allowing for a faster recovery, ease of muscle use, and improved energy. The company says that fibers in the ticking emit wavelengths that “penetrate any fabric (like sheets or pajamas), stimulating blood cells to increase oxygenation.”The Eco Therapy mattress, made with bamboo yarn and latex, is “as close to a green bed as you can find in the industry,” Shoffner said. He noted that eco-products are gaining popularity in the marketplace.Bamboo yarn has natural anti-bacterial and moisture-managing properties, he said. It is as soft as cashmere and silk but as durable as cotton and also acts as a deodorant, keeping the mattress fabric fresh, he said. The Sleep Therapy line retails from $999 to $1,999, where the Eco Therapy model is positioned.Park Place attracted interest a few years ago with its introduction of Magnetic Therapy bedding, which uses magnets to provide healthful benefits to consumers, the company says.“We are still doing well with Magnetic Therapy,” Shoffner said. “It certainly gets attention. The product works. We’ll keep running it.”Sleep Therapy is just one of the product lines produced by Park Place. That company also offers the Comfortaire line of airbeds, as well as conventional bedding.Sleep Therapy is a registered trademark of Wickline Bedding, a West Coast bedding producer; Park Place uses that name under license from Wickline. Park Place markets its Sleep Therapy line to East Coast retailers looking for specialty sleep products.
