EcoSnug brings silk goods to U.S.

New York – International silk bedding manufacturer EcoSnug has established a U.S. division and will make its market debut this fall during both the New York International Gift Fair/New York Home Textiles Market (Aug. 14-21) and the showroom-oriented New York Home Fashions Market (Sept. 15-19).
EcoSnug is a wholly owned subsidiary of seven-year-old Maylai Home Textiles, a vertical silk manufacturer that harvests silk from its own mulberry silkworm farms and manufactures fabric, fill and finished product in Tongxlang, Zheijiang Province in China. Its distribution markets include Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Asia.
Oeko-Tex certified, the company positions its products as all-natural and environmentally friendly, as well as luxurious. EcoSnug’s primary product categories are silk-filled comforters, mattress pads and sleep pillows, available with either silk or all-cotton shells. EcoSnug also produces blankets, throws and decorative pillows.
“We need to make American consumers aware of the benefits of silk,” said Jim Hagan, sales manager. In addition to being all-natural, silk is naturally hypoallergenic, repels dust mites, and resists mildew and mold.
EcoSnug is targeting independent specialty retailers, better department stores and hospitality buyers with tiered pricing. A Royal Silk queen comforter with silk fill and a charmeuse silk cover retails at around $799. The Super Deluxe queen with silk fill and a 300-count cotton sateen cover retails at $239, while the Duluxe queen with a 250-count cotton sateen cover retails at $199.
The product is also pure at the point of origin, noted Leon Liu, managing director. “The silkworm cannot survive if there are any chemicals or fertilizers,” he said.
Said Hagan: “We think with the green concept, with the quality of the silk and with the hypo-allergenic nature of the product, silk is going to become more popular in America. For retailers, it’s something they don’t have.”
At the Gift Fair, EcoSnug will show at the Javits Center, Booth 7978 and its showroom at 230 Fifth Ave., Suite 300. For New York Home Fashions Market, the company will show at 230 Fifth Ave., Suite 300. In addition, EcoSnug will display at the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show at the Javits Center, Both 2881.
