Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, July 12, 2013
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Some 26 furniture and home furnishings resources with permanent showrooms in and around the International Centre here will open when the 2013 edition of the Toronto Summer Furniture Show kicks off its four-day run Aug. 10.
Organized by the Canadian Home Furnishings Alliance, the TSFS is the only mid-year furniture industry event in Canada. The show will end Aug. 13 with the annual CHFA Golf Classic.
New to the show this year will be upholstery specialist Dynasty Furniture, which will open its showroom at 6830 Columbus Road, Mississauga.
Several notable names from previous summer shows will be missing from this year's roster, including lighting resource Sunset Lamp, contemporary upholstery maker Van Gogh Designs, upholstery producer Décor Rest Furniture, Furniture Brands Canada and Leather Craft.
To date, TSFS participants with showrooms in the SOFA (Source of Furniture & Accessories) annex of the International Centre include:
El Ran Furniture
Magnussen Home Furnishings
Those with permanent showrooms in the area surrounding the International Centre include:

Leather Living Furniture
Mazin Furniture Inds.
Perri Fine Furniture

As has been the practice for the past several years, TSFS will run in concert with the summer show organized by the Canadian Gift & Tableware Assn., which will be held at the International Centre and the nearby Toronto Congress Centre Aug. 11-14.

According to CHFA Chairman Laine Reynolds, TSFS traditionally attracts independent retailers from outside the Greater Toronto Area and Atlantic Canada.
"This is a great way for independent retailers to freshen their floors for the fall selling season," said Reynolds, who is also vice president of sales and marketing for upholstery producer Superstyle Furniture and its sister company, Trend-Line. He said that a number of independent retailers in eastern Canada do not travel to the big North American markets in High Point or Las Vegas and need an opportunity to source new goods for fall.
The show will conclude with the annual CHFA Golf Classic on Tuesday, Aug. 13. For the fourth consecutive year, the tournament will be held at the Caledon Woods Golf Club in Bolton, Ontario. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. following by a shotgun tee-off at 1 p.m. The tournament will end with dinner at 5:30 p.m.
