BOCA Raton, Fla. — City Furniture said a silent auction tied to its recent grand opening of its environmentally friendly City and Ashley Furniture HomeStores superstore here "raised some significant green" for Hospice by the Sea and Florida Atlantic University.
More than 1,000 people attended the grand opening event this past month, where among other things, the retailer marked with red balloons 70 furniture and accessories items donated by many of the Top 100 company's vendors. The auction raised more than $37,000 to support programs and services at both Hospice by the Sea and FAU's Adams Center for Entrepreneurship.
"Our company's roots are in South Florida, and we're deeply committed to grow with and help sustain this region," said City President Keith Koenig. "Launching this store as a regional hub for City Furniture offered an ideal chance to give back to two organizations that have meant so much to the community - and to our family."
Koenig's late brother and company founder Kevin Koenig, earned his MBA degree from FAU, and Koenig added that Hospice by the Sea was "a tremendous source of comfort" during Kevin's illness.
Founded in 1978, Hospice by the Sea provides hospice services, home health care, palliative care services, complementary therapies and caregiver support to patients and families in Palm Beach and Broward counties in South Florida.
