P/Kaufmann to license Waverly fabrics brand
Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, November 5, 2006
New York — Waverly's parent company, F. Schumacher & Co., is licensing the Waverly brand of decorative fabrics to P/Kaufmann.
Separately, Schumacher announced it merging its interior design brands — Decorators Walk, Greeff and Schumacher — under a single umbrella of Schumacher.
President Corinne Kevorkian, who was recently promoted from senior vice president to replace Miles Glidden, said the product lines will be restructured to focus on the Schumacher brand, its record of design excellence and customer service.
"This move is designed to capitalize on the strength of our flagship brand and create a selection and buying experience that is easier and more productive for our clients," Kevorkian said.
At fabrics converter P/Kaufmann, CEO Ron Kaufmann said the Waverly brand will be operated separately from the other Kaufmann divisions.
"We want to preserve the image of Waverly and its uniqueness and identity," he said. He said the division will have its own executives, designers and sales staff. He called Waverly "the only true brand in the decorative fabrics industry that has any consumer recognition."
He said Kaufmann will create and direct the design, and Schumacher will "provide input."
In furniture, Waverly has had a license with Lexington Home Brands since the late 1990s, but that relationship is ending. Dan Bonini, president and general manager of Waverly, said the company is "seeking another partner" in furniture beginning in January.
