Welspun USA will dramatically expand its reach in the home textiles world with the launch of its decorative bedding division in time for the August 2007 New York Home Fashions Market.
To support the new program, the company has hired Tim Landers as national sales director for bedding products. Landers recently resigned from Springs Global US where he was vp, sheet merchandising. Earlier he held several positions with Springs in sales and merchandising management, joining the company from the former May D & F, Denver.
"Tim will lead Welspun sales and strategic initiatives for bedding in the United States," said Anurag Sharma, president of sales and marketing for Welspun India Ltd. "His extensive experience will be a valuable addition to the Welspun USA team and will provide us with the needed insights necessary for us to move to the next level in achieving our long-term growth objectives."
In addition, Eric Hester has joined the company as production chief for the company's new bedding plant at Anjar, India. He most recently served as facility/operations manager for WestPoint Home at their Alamance Center plant in Burlington, N.C. and earlier was WestPoint's plant manager in its bedding facility in Hickory, N.C.
Discussing Hester's appointment, Sharma said, "Eric will be based in India to oversee the initiation of our new plant facility. His manufacturing experience equips him to understand the pulse of the retailer and what the consumer's quality related expectations are."
Sharma added, "We are doing all of those things necessary to insure that we are positioned to lead the home textiles industry with the right products, the right processes and the right people."
Mumbai-based Welspun, which was founded in 1985, expanded from its towel manufacturing base into sheeting about 18 months ago. The company has since added blankets to its mix. In 2006 it acquired Christy's, an upscale British towel producer. Solidifying its position in the U.S. marketplace, Welspun recorded $277 million in sales here last year, placing it No. 8 in the Home Textiles Today ranking of the nation's Top 15 home fashions suppliers.
With the addition of the decorative bedding business and staff, the company expects to open an office in Charlotte, N.C. within a few months.
