Lexington Home Brands furnishing ‘Extreme Makeover' house

Mother of three in Lexington, N.C., battling cancer

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 11, 2009

LEXINGTON, N.C. — A family here will receive a new house, courtesy of ABC-TV's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," and Lexington Home Brands, a company that has been connected to the community for more than a century, will provide furniture.

Construction of the home for William and Tricia Creasey and their three children began Wednesday and is expected to take just seven days. The show covering the project is expected to air in February.

Tricia Creasey, 37, is a seventh-grade teacher who is battling cancer. In the last school year, she refused to stop teaching despite undergoing chemotherapy and surgery. In May, she learned that her cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, and now receives weekly chemotherapy treatments that cost the family $1,400 a month after insurance.

The Creaseys bought their home as a fixer-upper, but repairs have taken a back seat to Tricia's medical care. It has numerous structural problems, including holes in the walls and roof.

Jim Burke, senior vice president of sales for Lexington Home Brands, said the "Extreme Makover" crew will select furniture from the Lexington retail store here and from the company's wholesale showroom in nearby Thomasville, N.C.

"Our employees have been a part of this community for over a century, and the opportunity to furnish a home built through the outpouring of local support and volunteerism is a privilege," said Burke. "This is what we do best, and the chance to showcase the talent of our employees and the quality of our product in the home of a deserving family is as good as it gets."
