Aaron's gives away $14,000 in goods to Lucky Dog Day winner

98 others also win smaller prizes

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 16, 2009

ATLANTA — Aaron's Inc. surprised Ruth Usher, the grand prize winner of the rent-to-own giant's National Lucky Dog Day Sweepstakes, last week at her home in Perry, Ga., with a houseful of furniture, name-brand appliances and electronics valued at $14,000.

"Aaron's strongly believes in giving back to our customers, especially during difficult economic times," said Robin Loudermilk, president and CEO. "The first National Lucky Dog Day Sweepstakes, and our largest giveaway to date, generated a tremendous response and a great deal of excitement across the nation."

Aaron's distributed more than 1.7 million letters with unique prize numbers during the National Lucky Dog Day contest in October. In addition to Usher, 98 other winners received prizes such as TVs and laptop computers.

Usher's prize package includes a seven-piece living room set, a nine-piece dining room and two seven-piece bedroom groups, along with three flat-panel TVs ranging from 60 to 32 inches, a TV stand, two home theater systems, a refrigerator, a washer-dryer, and laptop and notebook computers.

Usher, 61, is a mother of five with 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

"I've never won anything in my life, so I was shocked when I learned I was the Lucky Dog Day Grand Prize Sweepstakes winner," Usher said. "I'm so grateful to Aaron's - this prize will benefit my entire family who will share this with me. The timing is so appropriate because it's a season of thanksgiving."
