![]() The High Point City Council this week gave landmark status to the Radio Building, which opened in 1924 as the new headquarters for the Commercial National Bank. |
The Historic Landmark of Guilford County designation recognizes the building's significance in local history, said Candace Lambeth, building manager.
Opened in 1924, the building was designed by New York architect Charles C. Hartmann and built by prominent High Point contractor, R.K. Stewart & Son, as the new headquarters for the Commercial National Bank.
WMFR Radio has occupied the penthouse since 1940. Other current tenants include Bermex International and the International Design Society.
It is one of few buildings in downtown High Point used all year both for showrooms as well as other businesses.
