Sunset review launches on furniture antidumping duties
International Trade Commission seeks comments
Tom Russell -- Furniture Today, December 1, 2009
WASHINGTON — The U.S. International Trade Commission is set to begin its "sunset review" of the antidumping case on Chinese made wood bedroom furniture.
The review takes place on the fifth anniversary of the imposition of duties on wood bedroom furniture imports, which took effect Jan. 4, 2005.
In the original case, U.S. authorities determined that unfairly priced Chinese-made wood bedroom sets caused injury in the form of job losses to the domestic industry. The review will determine whether removing the duties will continue to cause similar injury to the remaining domestic industry.
As with the original case, the review process will be based largely on input from domestic producers and importers. To be included in this process, interested parties must respond to the ITC by Dec. 31. Comments on the adequacy of these responses must be filed with the ITC by Feb. 16.
The level of these responses will determine whether it conducts a full or expedited review. Industry sources say a full review could take almost a year to complete.
On Tuesday, a notice was published in the Federal Register outlining instructions and details on the review process.
Interested parties also can contact Mary Messer at the U.S. International Trade Commission at (202) 205-3193 for more information on the process.
