MORRILTON, Ark. — A Vietnam-based supplier of storage furniture and kitchen cabinets to Ikea, Vinh Long, will invest $5 million to set up a manufacturing facility here that will employ 75 people, according to Arkansas Business.
The website reported that the plant, to be known as Vinh Long-Arkansas, will make product for Ikea and other potential North American retail customers.
The company will begin production this summer, officials said. Vietnam's ambassador to the United States, Nguyen Quoc Cuong, appeared at an announcement Wednesday along with Madam Phan Thi My Hanh, the company's board chairman and general director, and Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe.
Hanh said the company sees "great potential for wood-based products manufactured in Arkansas," citing a sustainable supply of raw materials and support from local and state officials.
The plant will be in a former Bosch factory, which before closing in 2011 had employed 140 people making wood and plastic components used in audio speakers, Arkansas Business said.
