LITTLETON, Colo. — Longtime Empire Furniture and Conover Chair Co. sales representative Ramon (Ray) Mielke, 98, died here on Oct. 16.

Mielke began work in the furniture industry in 1956, when Bohanna Heating Co. in Battle Creek, Mich., began building wrought iron furniture. After the business was ravaged by a fire, Mielke left and began selling for Empire Furniture and Conover Chair, among others.

Mielke was involved with the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn./Home Furnishings Representatives of Michigan local chapter board of directors. He enjoyed the many friendships that he had developed in the furniture industry. He eventually sold furniture as a team with his son, Clayton Lawler, in Michigan and Minnesota.

Mielke is survived by two sons, one daughter, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Donations can be made in Mielke's memory to The Salvation Army. The online link is www.salvationarmyusa.org.
