New generation takes reins at Rothman Furniture

Dale SteinbackDale Steinback, left, is now chairman of Rothman Furniture, O’Fallon, Mo., and his son Jay Steinback is president.
ST. LOUIS - Dale Steinback has stepped down from the CEO post at Rothman Furniture here after 24 years, relinquishing the role to his son Jay Steinback.
The father will continue as chairman of the 86-year-old St. Louis-area retailer, which has nearly 250 employees.
Jay Steinback, previously executive vice president, takes over "with a focus on growth and the continued integration of technology to improve the customer experience," the O'Fallon, Mo.- based company said in a release.
"Furniture is in the blood of our family - both Rothman Furniture and my family's former company, Ideal Home Furnishings - and we've utilized that collective expertise to build Rothman into the strongest retail furniture brand in the greater St. Louis area," Dale Steinback said. "Having worked side by side with Jay and integrating him into everything we do, I am confident he is not only prepared to lead, but also will take our third generation company to greater heights."
Jay Steinback said he has worked in nearly every area of the business, from office work and assembling furniture to opening new stores and instituting new technology and customer service procedures.
"We have survived the many ups and downs of the retail furniture industry since 1927, but we must continue to modernize, grow, operate more efficiently, and take advantage of the most current digital media channels to reach consumers," he said.
He added that while his emphasis will be on working with Rothman President Vicki Smith on growth initiatives, "continuing to support a wide range of St. Louis-area charitable organizations remains an important part of our corporate mission."
Dale Steinback added that he will continue to look at the products Rothman sells in stores and online "and support Jay in any way he deems most helpful."
