Four U.S. sources showing at Cologne fair

Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, December 31, 2006

Four American furniture suppliers — Ashley Furniture, Blue City Furniture, Sitcom and Stanley Furniture — are scheduled to show at the IMM Cologne furniture fair here, Jan. 15 to 21.

Cologne has shifted the locations of product categories this year to make it easier to shop the show, according to Udo Traeger, vice president of furniture, interior design and textiles for IMM Cologne.

Under the banner "smart," Halls 7 and 8 are dedicated to flat-pack furniture, while "sleep" in Hall 9 houses mattresses, bed linens and accessories.

Living room and bedroom furniture will be in Rheinparkhallen at the perimeter of the exhibition complex.

Under the umbrella of "pure," modern design will be showcased in Hall 11. Young designers will show their wares in Hall 1 under the banner "d3 design talents," including a design competition, a forum for colleges and universities, and a program for independent designers.

"Ideal houses," an annual feature of the fair since 2003, will present visions of future home styles from British architect Zaha Hadid and Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. The presentation will be inside the boulevard running north to south through the fairground.

For the third year, the Cologne show's Trend Board, representing design authorities in Europe and the United States, has identified home furnishings directions on the rise. This year's trends are Heirloom Culture, New Hybrids, Size Matters and Design as Art.
