CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Upholstery producer Jackson Furniture has acquired a 183,000-square-foot facility in Mantachie, Miss., and will begin production there next week.
The company said its newest factory, which is in Itawamba County about 15 miles east of Tupelo, will produce stationary and motion furniture, and should be operating at full capacity by the end of the year.
"Northeast Mississippi is the ideal location for us, based on an excellent pool of experienced living room furniture makers," said Ron Jackson, CEO. "This small area of the country is the number one volume producer of living room sofas and recliners in the country, so we have the people, management and vendor base to be immediately productive and expanding."
He said the 33-acre Mantachie site was picked "after careful consideration and a tremendous recruitment process by the state of Mississippi and Itawamba County."The building previously had been used by several furniture manufacturers.
In addition to the Mantachie plant and its main factory in Cleveland, the company has a factory in Frong Royal, Va., and expects to close on the purchase of a second Mississippi plant in the next 45 days, Jackson said.
"We are thankful to our dealers who have rewarded us with this opportunity for growth. Because of their loyal support, we have made an official commitment to our existing dealers to not open any new customers until we can improve our lead times," added Keith Jackson, senior vice president of sales. "Jackson has experienced tremendous sales growth the past few years and has the people, product, and business structure in place to continue the trend and support our family of dealers."
The company produces motion upholstery under the Catnapper brand name and stationary furniture under the Jackson name.
It was founded in 1933 by W. Ray Jackson - Ron Jackson's father and Keith Jackson's grandfather.
