Shaak joins Linwood in dual role
By Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, December 31, 2006
Linwood, N.C. — Industry veteran Bob Shaak has come out of retirement to join fledgling manufacturer Linwood Furniture here in the new post of chief operating officer and vice president of sales and marketing.
Shaak, who held posts at Hickory White, Thomasville and Lexington, took early retirement in 2004. He began working informally with Linwood a few months ago, developing the company's sales and marketing direction, said Dan Timberlake, a Linwood investor.
"We are extremely excited — and a bit surprised — that we were able to coax Bob out of retirement to help Linwood with our growth plans," said CEO Jimmy Kepley.
Shaak reports to Kepley and will work with Bryan Starnes, senior vice president of manufacturing operations, who was plant manager when the facility was operated by Lexington Home Brands.
Lexington closed the plant a year ago, but a team of investors headed by Kepley, Bob and Dan Timberlake, and NASCAR team owner Richard Childress bought the factory and launched Linwood in March.
The company has a manufacturing contract with Lexington to produce goods for the World of Bob Timberlake program. In addition, it is planning a licensed group with Childress Vineyards for introduction in the fall of 2007, and will launch its first self-branded collection this spring.
"I think I can help them and together we can make something of this, put some people back to work," said Shaak.
Linwood also recently announced that upholstery veteran Nadine Andrews, who also has been in a consulting role, will become vice president of product development and design. She most recently was merchandise manager for upholstery at Broyhill and before that was at Lexington.
Linwood has about 100 employees and anticipates hiring more in 2007.
