Ottawa — Sears Canada has named Dene Rogers, its acting president since May, as president and CEO.
Before joining Sears Canada, Rogers was executive vice president, restructuring and business improvement, for the retailer's U.S.-based majority owner, Sears Holding Corp. Previously, he was executive vice president and general manager of Kmart stores, also owned by Sears Holding.
"I am proud of the progress Sears Canada's 37,000 associates have made this year," said Rogers. "I look forward to working with our team as we tackle the significant challenges ahead."
Sears Canada also named William Crowley as board chairman. He has been a board member since March 2005.
Separately, Pershing Square Capital Management, a minority holder of Sears Canada stock, said that funds it manages have acquired another 4.5 million shares of the retailer. Pershing Square said its funds now hold about 14.2 million shares, or about 13.2% of the outstanding shares.
Sears Holding was unsuccessful in its attempts to take the Canadian company private last year.
