Los Angeles — David Sowinski has been named president and CEO of contemporary upholstery maker Lazar Inds., succeeding Barry Lazar, founder of the company.
Lazar is retiring but remains an investor and a member of the board of directors, and also will be available to consult with the company's product development team.
Sowinski is a former president of Pennsylvania House, a La-Z-Boy company, and has held various posts at La-Z-Boy, including chief strategy implementation officer and senior vice president for the company's case goods group. As senior vice president, Sowinski was responsible for La-Z-Boy's sourcing organization in the Far East.
Before joining La-Z-Boy, he worked for the Loewenstein Furniture Group, which supplies seating to the contract and hospitality markets.
"We are very pleased to have someone of Dave's caliber leading the Lazar team," said Jim Baker, the lead partner at River Associates, the private equity firm that purchased Lazar in 1999. "His operational, financial, supply chain and sales and marketing experience in both residential and contract furnishings will be invaluable to Lazar."
