Bush to cut workers at Pa. plant
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 31, 2006
Jamestown, N.Y. — Bush Inds., a major ready-to-assemble furniture resource, will eliminate about one-third of the workforce at its Erie, Pa., factory as the company consolidates some operations into its Jamestown factory.
The consolidation, which will begin in mid-February, will result in the loss of about 90 jobs in Erie. Currently, the 1.1 million-square-foot facility has 270 employees.
James Sherbert, president and CEO, said all distribution and logistics and some "strategic manufacturing" operations will remain in Erie.
"We continue to expand our manufacturing and supply chain in Asia and Europe, which requires us to consolidate some domestic operations," Sherbert said. "This is an extension of our long-range strategy to align our manufacturing capabilities with the global demands of the marketplace."
