Catello, Gonzalez in national posts at Surya Rugs

Sales, marketing team expanding

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 4, 2007

CALHOUN, Ga. — Surya Rugs has named Joan Catello vice president of national accounts and Jeff Gonzalez national sales vice president. Both are new positions.

Catello will be responsible for the development of the rug maker and importer’s national accounts division. Gonzalez will help build the national sales team. Both come to Surya from Kas Oriental Rugs, where Catello was national vice president of sales and marketing, and Gonzalez was East Coast regional vice president of sales.

Surya President Satya Tiwari said, “We are expanding our sales and marketing team in order to add new channels of retail distribution and gain further penetration in existing channels.”

Catello has been involved with the floor covering industry since 1987, when she joined Columbus Mills. From 1990 to 1995, she was with Shaw Inds., and served in that company’s rug division when it was formed. She was with Oriental Weavers from 1995 to 2000, when she joined Kas.

Gonzalez began his wholesale career with Middle East Rug Corp., where he was Mid-Atlantic regional manager for nine years. He joined Kas three years ago.

Surya is a vertically integrated company established in India in 1976, specializing in hand-tufted rugs from that country. The U.S. company, incorporated in 1986, exhibits in Atlanta, Las Vegas and High Point.
