AHFA improves consumer site
Features room planner, expanded locator

HIGH POINT — Consumers have an updated resource to shop for furniture on the American Home Furnishings Alliance’s newly enhanced Web site.
Among the new features at http://www.findyourfurniture.com are a room planner and an expanded locator that gives consumers links to manufacturer Web sites for indoor and outdoor furniture.
The room planner lets shoppers enter the dimensions of a room, then move around icons representing their current furniture, plus pieces they wish to purchase.
"Once they have identified the pieces they need, they may want to review the latest styles available," said Jackie Hirschhaut, AHFA vice president. "Our Style Finder has just been updated with new photos and descriptions of the five most representative style categories."
The most frequented feature on the site since its creation in 2002 is the Furniture Finder. Feedback from consumers who have used the site prompted AHFA to refine the database that supports the Furniture Finder. Now, consumers begin their search by selecting indoor or outdoor furniture.
"There has been so much interest in furnishing the ‘outdoor room’ in recent years," Hirschhaut said. "We decided to make it easier for consumers to shop the wide spectrum of products now available for making their outdoor living areas as comfortable as their indoor living areas."
The database can be searched by such features as product, style, price or material (such as aluminum, wicker or wrought iron for outdoor furniture).
Each search produces a list of companies with products that meet the shopper’s criteria, with links to company Web sites, where the consumer usually can find a dealer locator or a customer service number.
Other features on the AHFA site include:
* Style Profiler, a quick quiz to help consumers decide which styles are right for them.
* Trend Watch, reports on the latest home furnishings trends.
* Ask Jackie, an opportunity to e-mail furniture-related questions to Hirschhaut.
* Shopping Tips, checklists to help demystify furniture shopping.
* Furniture Care and Safety Tips.
