Stickley, Audi & Co. store to open in Paramus, N.J., by Labor Day

PARAMUS, N.J. — Upper end case goods and upholstery resource Stickley Furniture has purchased a 22,000-square-foot facility here that it plans to convert into a retail showroom by Labor Day.

The company said it closed the purchase of the showroom at 55 Route 4 in Paramus on Feb. 8, shortly after the owners of Bograd's Fine Furniture completed their retirement sale. Bograd's, one of Stickley's larger dealers, was in nearby Riverdale, N.J.

The Paramus location will be renovated with a new façade in time for the opening, Stickley officials said.

The Stickley, Audi & Co. showroom, which will carry Stickley and other furniture lines, will give the company a third major presence in the New Jersey-New York metropolitan area. It also has showrooms of 25,400 square feet in New York City and 70,000 square feet in White Plains, N.Y.

"This will enable us to pool our advertising, delivery and other operational functions while ensuring the continuity and strength of the Stickley brand in that part of New Jersey," said Aminy Audi, president and CEO.

Officials did not reveal the purchase price or the cost of renovations. The Paramus location will be the company's 15th showroom.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
