Duarte, Calif. — Dr. Alexandra Levine, an internationally known expert in lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and AIDS-related malignancies, has been named chief medical officer of City of Hope.
She most recently was a professor and chair of the Division of Hematology at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine, and medical director of the USC/Norris Cancer Hospital.
Levine, who joined City of Hope Jan. 2, replaced Dr. James Miser, who left the medical center last year. She will develop and implement the institution's clinical strategy and program development, and will act as a liaison to City of Hope Medical Group member physicians to promote collaboration and assure effective recruiting and retention.
"Dr. Levine is a noted advocate of bringing more humanism into medicine and can address quality patient care from all angles, managing the needs of patients while also providing guidance for the physicians who treat them," said City of Hope CEO Dr. Michael Friedman.
City of Hope is a research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses. The home furnishings industry long has been a supporter of the facility.
