National Assembly Services
Edison, N.J. — National Marketing Services has hired Michael Florkowski as senior vice president of its furniture product assembly division, National Assembly Services, a new position at the company. He reports to Bill Brenner, NMS president.
Florkowski will have operational as well as profit and loss responsibilities for the division.
He previously was director of operations for Impact Resource Group in Atlanta, where he led the small company through successful expansion into the national marketplace.
National Assembly Services employs hundreds of professional furniture assemblers, serving retailers and individual furniture buyers in the United States and Canada.
Operations
American of Martinsville
Martinsville, Va. — Industry veteran Bennie Corbett has been name director of credit at American of Martinsville here, a position he held some years ago under different ownership.
Corbett, with nearly 20 years of credit experience and most recently credit manager at HDM Furniture Inds., reports to Michelle Whitlock, chief financial officer of American of Martinsville, which makes upholstery and case goods for the contract industry.
Before joining HDM, Corbett was senior credit analyst for Culp from August 2000 to October 2004. Prior to that, he was with Ladd and then La-Z-Boy, where he held several posts including regional credit manager for Ladd companies and director of credit at American of Martinsville.

Horich Parks Lebow
Hunt Valley, Md. — Horich Parks Lebow Advertising has hired Sam Yaksich as creative director.
Yaksich joins the company after nine years with Liverpool, N.Y.-based furniture retailer Raymour & Flanigan, where he was creative director of an in-house ad agency. During his time there, the company grew from 32 to 63 stores and became one of the largest furniture retailer in the Northeast.
Montage Furniture Services
Roseville, Minn. — Troy Lerew has joined furniture protectant company Montage Furniture Services as vice president of sales for the company's Western region. He will be responsible for all aspects of sales and sales force management in the region.
Lerew has held senior posts in sales, operations and merchandising with Good's Furniture, Breuners Home Furnishings Corp., Sofa Express & More and, most recently, Treasures Furniture in California.
"Troy's combination of industry experience and enthusiasm make him a great fit for MFS's growing business," said Alan Salmon, company president.
MFS protection plans cover fabric, wood, case goods, leather and mattresses.

Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative
Ottawa — Art DeFehr, president and CEO of the Palliser Group, has been named one of three volunteer strategic advisors for the Canadian government's Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative.
David Emerson, minister of international trade and minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver/Whistler Olympics, made the appointment.
"We have an opportunity to establish links into Asia for our exporters, as well as to break down the barriers for trade and investment into Canada," Emerson said, adding the input of the strategic advisors will help create sound policy.
In addition to DeFehr, other strategic advisors are Jeff Burghardt, president and CEO of Prince Rupert Grain, and T. Richard Turner, chair of the Insurance Corp. of British Columbia and president and CEO of TitanStar Investment Group.
