Garth Atherly, McMahan's Furniture
Santa Monica, Calif. — Garth Atherly, retired director of merchandising for retailer McMahan's Furniture here, has died. He was 83.
After World War II, where Atherly was shot down and held prisoner by the Germans, he returned home and applied to work for McMahan's Furniture. The retailer would turn out to be a life-long employer for Atherly.
He worked there for the next 46 years, starting as a deliveryman and retiring in 1992 as director of merchandising.
Atherly is survived by his wife, two daughters, four sons, one stepdaughter, one stepson, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Chuck Siegel, Glideaway Bed Carriage
Plano, Texas — Charles H. "Chuck" Siegel, a sales manager for Glideaway Bed Carriage of St. Louis, has died. He was 66.
Siegel joined Glideaway in 1996. He also was a retired major in the National Guard in Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, one son and five grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
