Restonic, Dormia introduce gel beds

Las Vegas — Gel is swell, according to two bedding producers introducing gel-cushioned beds here later this month.
Las Vegas, the country's most active bedding market with most of the Top 15 bedding producers showing, should turn some buyers' heads with innovative bedding introductions.
Take gel, for example. Bedding major Simmons introduced its Technogel product last summer, featuring that imported gel in some high-end models in its BackCare line. It was the first major to plunge into gel.
This market, two new players enter the gel arena. Top 15 producer Restonic unveils its Flex Gel Rest bed, retailing at $1,999. It features honeycomb-like gel cells that it says allow for greater airflow, thus keeping the surface of the bed cooler. The gel is triple-zoned.
And specialty bedding producer Dormia is rolling out its Cool Gel mattress. The full-body gel pad reacts to the sleeper's body by flexing, conforming and eliminating pushback and counter pressure, according to Dormia. The visco-elastic polymer gel pad rests atop a support core of high density foam.
"The unique elastic properties of Cool Gel envelop the sleeper regardless of their weight or shape to offer a fuller, more comfortable, rejuvenating night's rest than anyone has ever experienced," said Mike Zippelli, Dormia's CEO.
He said Dormia, showing its new retail display concept in its Connie Post-designed showroom at the Las Vegas Market, is unveiling the "next-generation of sleep technology."
Another new product that should "attract" attention is a magnetic bed introduced by Restonic.
The company is making a strong specialty bedding statement this market. Its new gel and magnet beds join new air, latex and visco models in a new showroom, also designed by Connie Post.
Restonic's magnet bed features two inch-wide magnetic strips that run horizontally across the bed. It will retail at $2,499.
"Restonic is very excited to be introducing two entirely innovative products into the specialty bedding category," said Donna Favia, vice president of sales and marketing. "The Flex Gel Rest and Sleep Odyssey Magnet beds will provide our retailer partners with even more opportunities to catch the consumer's attention, and provide them with more choices."
Magnet beds, like gel beds, are not unknown in the industry. Park Place, also showing at the Las Vegas Market, has a magnet bed in its Sleep Therapy Wellness Collection that company officials say has done well.
Park Place offers a number of novel beds, including models that use aloe vera and aroma therapy treatments to appeal to female consumers. Other models use hot and cool technologies to provide soothing, comfortable sleep, according to the company.
