Importer IFM opens Las Vegas showroom
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, January 28, 2007
Las Vegas — International Furniture Marketing, an all-import, direct-container division of case goods manufacturer and importer Standard Furniture, will have its own showroom at this month's market here.
The 4,300-square-foot showroom is in space 948 of Building A of the World Market Center. Standard is in space 953 of the same building.
IFM will show six new promotional bedrooms and four groups with bedroom and dining room, plus occasional product. The company declined to reveal retail price points, other than to say they are lower than for typical Standard products.
Standard acquired IFM in 1998 to help strengthen its overseas buying power. The deal also gave Standard access to IFM's on-site quality control personnel.
In turn, IFM tapped into Standard's domestic resources such as U.S. warehousing and distribution capabilities.
The sister companies previously have shared showrooms in High Point, Las Vegas and Tupelo. But this is the first time IFM will have a separate space.
Company officials say the move isn't meant to change the look or direction of Standard Furniture, which has a licensed line of Kathy Ireland-branded product.
Instead, it is helping to diversify the company's offerings and establish a stronger niche in the import realm, with goods available on mixed containers.
"It is giving us a leg up on imports, which is why we have chosen to do it," said company spokeswoman Katy Hunt. "It is very similar to what we do at Standard, but with lower price points."
