Iron Bed aims to boost presence in U.S. market
Line includes 12 domestically made beds

Plano, Texas — The Iron Bed, a midpriced to high-end designer of metal beds, wants to boost its presence in the U.S. marketplace.
Iron Bed sells its line at three company-owned stores in Atlanta, Dallas and Corona del Mar, Calif. It designs the beds and sources them at a factory in the Los Angeles area.
It also entered the market as a wholesaler this year and has begun distributing the beds to other retailers. The company got a strong reaction when it showed at its first market in Las Vegas this past summer and at High Point in October, said Kim Goodwin, wholesale manager.
The line includes 12 models available in six finishes and multiple configurations, including canopy and return post construction designs and headboard-only models. The beds are merchandised with a line of top-of-bed textiles marketed as Bliss Linens.
Beds range from $800 to $5,000 retail, with the top price for a model with a leather headboard. The line includes traditional and antique reproduction designs as well as contemporary models, which are proving to be among the company's top sellers.
"Our iron beds are more Old World or traditional styling," Goodwin said. "But our selection is really unique in that we also have some very contemporary styles with square versus round steel tubing."
The company will make its next appearance at the New York International Gift Fair, Jan. 28 to Feb. 1 in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. It will return to High Point in the spring, showing in the Interhall section of the International Home Furnishings Center.
It also plans to show again in Las Vegas, but will skip the January market.
With those trade show appearances, the company will launch new models and finishes. Iron Bed says it expects to stay competitive by focusing on quality construction and appealing designs.
"There are a lot of beautiful iron beds out there," Goodwin said. "We stand out as far as design."
