'Vic' Vecchione, Trend Manor
City Of Industry, Calif. — Julian "Vic" Vecchione, founder and president of manufacturer Trend Manor Furniture, has died after a brief illness. He was 90.
A World War II veteran, Vecchione and partner Frank Roberts launched a modern occasional furniture business, Hallmark Furniture, in 1945.
The company first shared 10,000 square feet with a casket maker. In 1949, Vecchione bought out Roberts and moved the newly named Trend Manor Furniture to a new Los Angeles factory. The company now makes solid-wood furniture in a 75,000-square-foot facility here.
In 1997, the California Furniture Manufacturers Assn. named Trend Manor manufacturer of the year. In 2002, the San Francisco Mart awarded Vecchione its Lifetime Platinum Pass. At that time, he had exhibited at the SFM for 55 years. Until the last three weeks of his life, Vecchione spent six days a week at the factory. The company will be run by his son, Ted, who worked by his father's side for 35 years.
