Five Modernage stores to run high-impact sales
To battle “awful” conditions in South Florida

ATLANTA — Leath Furniture has hired Planned Furniture Promotions to run high impact sales at five of its Modernage stores in South Florida in an effort to boost flagging business.
The sales are expected to begin sometime after President’s Day in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, south Miami and Dade County, said Leath CEO Ron Phillips. If the move materially helps sales, “we could stay in that mode for a long time,” he said.
Phillips described business in South Florida as “awful,” adding, “I believe most of the furniture retailers in South Florida are struggling with double-digit sales decreases and have for a while. We’re going to try to reverse that with double-digit increases.”
Phillips declines to disclose details of the promotion, except to say it well be “much harder hitting than promotions Modernage or its competitors have run in the past” to stimulate traffic and volume.
The Modernage stores in Stuart and Vero Beach, Fla., will not participate in the sales because business there is better, Phillips said.
