Istanbul, Turkey — The 13th annual edition of the Evteks textile show is set for May 16–20 at the CNR Expo here.
Billed as the world's second-largest such show, Evteks 2007 aims to put Turkey's $3 billion textile industry in the global spotlight and create a more prestigious platform for Turkish producers as they pursue a share of the $20 billion global textile market.
The European and North American markets are particularly important to the Turkish industry, with half the trade generated at Evteks being export business to those regions.
The primary goal of Evteks is to become a regional powerhouse among textile markets, according to organizers, who note the waning interest in giant fairs in the face of difficult economic conditions around the world.
The annual show is organized by Istanbul Trade Fairs with the support of the Home Textile Industrialists and Businessmen's Assn. (EVSIAD) and the Turkish Home Textile Industrialists Assn. (TETSD).
In 2006, Evteks drew more than 70,000 visitors to see 650 exhibitors, including 626 Turkish companies. This year, more than 700 exhibitors and 90,000 visitors are expected to attend.
Countries represented among exhibitors include the United States, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, India, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, South Korea, Syria, Greece, Israel, Austria, England, South Africa and Mexico.
