Plaza show to concentrate on upholstery for future markets
Heath Combs -- Furniture Today, February 11, 2007
Las Vegas — Organizers of an offsite show for former Las Vegas Furniture Show exhibitors at the Plaza Hotel and Casino will focus on attracting upholstery sources for future markets here.
Ben Nielsen, president of Cambridge of California Upholstery, said four major upholstery resources had expressed interest in the venue. Nielsen said upholstery exhibitors often face higher costs because it takes so much space to show the product.
"It's a different venue, but we saw all the people we needed to see," he said.
In addition to Cambridge, Albany Upholstery, Robert Michael Upholstery, Wickline Bedding, Meadowbrook Upholstery, Images and Steve Silver showed in about 20,000 square feet in the hotel's ballroom.
Besides Steve Silver (casual dining) and Wickline (bedding), the others are upholstery companies. Most are West Coast based. The show could expand by about 20,000 square feet, Nielsen said, and he hopes to do more mailings to inform buyers about the show in July.
The event is unaffiliated with the World Market Center show.
The Plaza companies formerly showed in the Sands Expo at The Las Vegas Furniture Show, an event organized independently from the WMC show. Triad Expositions, organizer of the LVFS, canceled the January event but said it still may have a July show.
